STEAMPUNK JAPAN FINAL by phishy STEAMPUNK JAPAN FINAL by phishy
here it is. a superfuckinghuge deviation of my first ever environement modeling/texturing/lighting thing.

a month in the making. i dunno how many hours but id guesstimate it at..i dunno... couple hundred hours?

i dont realy know what to say.

its a 3d environement of a bleak steampunkeske medieval japan based on concept art by feng zhu. thats what i was asked to do. model shit after artwork. and make an environement out of it. i added the whole steampunk thing and ambiance and all that. im pretty glad with what i did. i like it even.

enjoy.

Just curious, what program did you use to create digital art like this? Can you buy it? If so, how much is it?

That is so creative, even if it's not your original concept, it looks great! Perfect mix of technology and traditional history.
Lighting and textures are nicely done.

Even as your first crack at this modeling/textures/lighting thing, it looks amazing, great job!

Cool! It looks like screenshot of a video game or something! Critique Encouraged huh? Well, it's hard to critique someone who draw better than you. Let me see...what you could do is make it look more realistic. I don't mean don't make it steampunk. I mean make it look less blocky and so computer looking. Make it look like it came from ''Final fantasy avent children'' or something. They have great graphics!!

Interesting; it reminds me of a "steampunk" scenario I made in the game Civilization 2 (basically 19th century technology with a few scifi additions is the most advanced technology can get), where I was playing as the Japanese.

Anywhoo, the whole concept of "steampunk" is interesting; it seems more refreshingly timeless than today's rapidly changing technology (sometimes for the disturbing - like brain control implants [ [link] ] in rats for example).

(although, I'm not saying that modern technology is *ALL* bad - it allowed you to make these interesting renders, for example)

Anywhoo, where is this scene set? Is it a rocky island, a mountain-top, or is it intentionally isolated in a void of clouds? In any case, the scene looks professional enough to be a scene in a 7th generation console ( [link] ) game.

That's really cool; it looks like it came right out of a video game. I love the dark, sinister feel to it and the industrial aspects. Flippin' sweet :3

you have just manage to re-inspire me, i'm 1 1/2 months into a huge project and i was getting a little jaded as none of my modles are yet coloured or anything , so it all looks poo!
but you made me remember how satisfying the end result is

(hugs and thanks )

keep beeing great !

Phwowah, I'd say all that time and effort was definitely worth it! Freaking wow! Although--and just because I'm in love with the genre--a little more of the industrial aspect couldn't have hurt. ;]
