THE NEW COLOR THEORIES by phishy THE NEW COLOR THEORIES by phishy
people often ask me what its like in my head.

its exactly like that. infact, i often ask myself that very question. seriously..what would it be like. most people tell me that we already saw all the colors we can see. the spectrum of light. they say that if it was something like ultraviolet or infrared we just wouldnt see it. yeah but we dont have ultraviolet paint! maybe the aliens do! what would we see? just unpainted metal? NOBODY KNOWS.

so yeah...thats how it is in my head pretty much all the time.

I used to wonder about this until I learned about this thing called the electromagnetic spectrum. Science ruins everything for me. >=

I've often thought of this too, but I figure that our eyes would burn, since, as you said, any other color would not exist on the color scale... or something like that...

unless...WOULD IF THERE WAS A DIFFERENT COLOR SPECTRUM FOR DIFFERENT SUNS?! that would neato! and you could paint something under that different sun, and then bring it back here and it would be a different color spectrum...

Or s'mthing like that...

Uhmmm... Hey, wouldn't want to burst your bubble but we do have ultra violet paint, you know those ones that emit visible light only when you expose it to ultraviolet light. All the detergent are filled with them to make your cloths look extra white when you expose them to the suns ultra violet rays. Soooo... , any questions? No?
Thinking these kinds of stuff makes me want to kill some one.:chainsaw:

Heeeey, that's a good point. I never really thought about it like that. Our vision is only able to see colors that are within our visual spectrum, right? So if the color was outside the spectrum, then we probably couldn't see it...OR COULD WE?!
Damn, this is going to keep me up all night.

i dont believe this! i was awake half the night thinking about this colour idea.
paint isnt just made of pigment its made of other painty stuff too, which is probably yellow or white or something. if aliens had ultraviolet paint it'd probably look like un-coloured paint to us. thats what i think anyway.
also, plenty of flowers have ultraviolet patterns for the benifit of bees etc - and all we see this the plain petals in 'normal' colours...... maybe flowers are aliens?

there are a lot of colors we can't see, you should know that by now, It's basic light spectrum stuff, we can only see the colors made of streams with a lenght between 400 and 700nm (I don't remember the exact numbers), so, we just wouldn't see it, but yeah, I have asked that myself several times, when I was 13, before I saw the light spectrums topic in biology class. (Insects see some colors we don't for example)

Or maybe just the eyes.

No, the question I worry about most is if my non-existent dog were about to be probed by aliens and they only way they would let it off would be if I could successfully describe the color blue to a blind person. But how do you describe the color blue other than BLUE?! HUH?!

yeah, i think that all the time :)

i once said to my friends

they laughed at me.

but somebody could be, and not know it, because what are shapes anyway?

oh yea. i've asked myself the same question. But without aliens. Theres a new colour in a book I read by Terry Pratchett once, its called Octarine. I would imagine it to be some kind of orange/green transparent colour.

my brain hurts. I also think "What if when I see blue, the rest of the world sees a different colour, but calls it blue". Like if everyone says the sky is blue but what every person sees is different....If that makes any sense.

yeah i like bananas too they are tasty and healthy i suppose
ah btw the same thing is with forms or shapes
how can i say that something like a cow that looks for me like something X looks the same to you?
you know that it is called cow and If u tell me that u saw a cow I know what u mean but the funny thing is that we'll never know if we see the same thing I mean have the same impression in our brain of what we see
and in the end it's just that it depends on what we learned as children
but on the otherside there were some sort of experiments like the famous "Kasper Hauser" who was locked away for about 15 years after he was born... in the end he could learn to speak and to adjust to the community and finally learn how to see everything like everybody sees it

haahaa
i think everyone on da has this problems in his brain hrrhrr
but i dunno if u start to work to get some money to feed yourself and perhaps someone else then u stop finally thinking about it cuz it's really sensless
thank you

I had this messed up theaory about colour; see... If i see blue as colour X, how do I know that your blue 'or what you call blue' really doesnt look more like colour Y or Z.... becuase you can't describe colour - it's impossible without first refering to another colour. Saying that a colour is 'warm' or 'cool' won't help because these are things that are learnt - we group warm and cool colours because we've learnt them to be warm and cool - associations with nature etc. So really the 'stuff' i see as red (if seen through your eyes) may look blue. But hell who cares :) meat popsicle!

i know exactly what you mean.i always thaught of things like that but with any other words. like if some jackass paents had fun teaching the wrong definition of some word. like pointing to a cloud and saying to his kid «that called a seahorse»

hilarious, but oh so mean.
