my dad is going into hospital a week from today for heart surgery. this is a wonderful piece - definitely one of my favourites of yours. i think death is something everyone has thought about at at aleast one point in their lives, but i guess for most it seems too far away to appreciate. i think it is only when you go through something like being seriously ill or an accident yourself that you start to appreciate life for what it is - i dont have that skill yet unfortunetely, but my mum had cancer and now 'lives every day to the full' - she is doing what she wants to do - she had started up her own business and is actaully enjoying life for what it is, even if there are problems and mountains to climb. even he smallest of children should be able to do that
thats priceless. his top hat distinguishes him as a gentleman figure. he cannot believe that someone of his stature will die. i do however feel that the kid is not concerned about his fathers realisation of the inevitability of death. i have reason to believe the kid has spotted an action figure in the toy section and he's willing to throw an almighty tantrum in order to attain his lifeless plastic desire.
Everyone dies, eventually. Even if they find a way to prevent ageing, there's still random chance with accidents and whatnot. Even if you're well protected, there's always that random chance of a sudden heart attack or stroke, etc.
So yeah, everyone dies eventually, i just hope it's not too soon for me ^^
